The Dividend Champions are a list of companies which have continually raised the dividend on their stock for at least 25 consecutive years or more. This list of stocks is different from the more popular Dividend Aristocrats as the Dividend Champions don’t have to be included in the S&P 500 index to qualify. This leads to finding some smaller companies with sometimes higher dividend yield and more potential for growth but all have in a common a long history of not only keeping their dividend in place for shareholders but increasing it over multiple decades. This shows long term stability in the company, their earnings, and their payout to shareholders.
The Dividend Champions List was originally created by Dave Fish who passed away in 2018 and is now maintained by Justin Law.
The Dividend Champions List has 138 stocks listed using data available up to August 2020. The goal of the Dividend Champions is to identify all of the best dividend stocks in the entire market without consideration of size or index inclusion to create better diversification in sectors and market cap sizes with a full range of opportunities for future growth.
This list is twice as big as the Dividend Aristocrats list of 66.
